The 2015 UBHA finals were held on October 10, 2015 In Bowman N.D. The decision to move the event from the indoor arena to the outdoor rodeo arena was a good one, because the day turned beautiful with moderate temperatures and just a little breeze. Beginning at 1:00 P.M. we started with the yearling colts, followed by 2 year olds and 3 year olds. More than 50 horses competed for the title of event champion and horse of the year.
In the yearling division there were 9 very good colts competing. When the dust settled It was 452 Centerfold of Johnson/GF Buckers that took the event title. She was followed closely by 444 of Joe Waln’s and in 3rd was 408 Hyna owned by Johnson/GF Buckers, who was named the high point horse of the year in the yearling division.
The very competitive 2-year-old class of 20 horses was won by South/GF Buckers 394 Chrome Cowboy, who also completed the year as the 2-year-old high point horse. Finishing a close 2nd for the event was Stan Headings good Y153.
The 3-year-old division saw Lance Lesmeister’s 253 Fancy Dance best the field of 22 horses, followed closely by Skip and Elaine Jones’ V-45 Choctaw Bingo, who was also the 3-year-old high point horse of the year.
The contractor of the year was closely fought all year. At the end of the finals it was Joe Waln of Waln Ranch and Rodeo that received the coveted buckle.
That evening the UBHA hosted a team event for riders, with each team consisting of 1 bareback horse and 2 saddle broncs. There were a total of 8 teams competing. When the dust settled it was the team from Longbrake, Lesmeister and Jones that walked away with the win.
The top 10 2-year-old and 3-year-old colts are now invited to the Benny Binion bucking stock sale to be held at the South Point casino on December 3rd during the upcoming NFR. Come out and see the best dummy colts going down the road.
