CJRA Team Roping Partners Win Big in OKC!
Jhett Trenary and Jase Staudt have been friends since they were very little. Jhett is from Salida and Jase from Nathrop, Colo., but only live about 10 minutes from each other. The years spent in and out of the arena, both practice and competitive, have seasoned this young team way beyond their combined years of 33 (Jhett 16, and Jase 17).  Both have been members of CJRA since they were in the Pee Wee division and have been roping together for the past 4 years. in the Jr. and Sr. Divisions.  They have spent countless hours together roping the dummy since they were old enough to swing a rope and have developed a chemistry that has made them very successful in the arena.
Winning the #9 at the USTRC Regional Finals in Pueblo this past spring qualified them for the Shoot- Out at USTRC Finals in OKC in October, however, before the finals, Jase got his number raised and they had to enter the #10. “When we backed in the box for our first steer it was no different than any other roping,” said Jase. “Jhett and I have ran so many steers together we know how to react to the steer and what we need to do in order to make a successful run. Our plan was to focus on roping the steer we draw and do the best we can no matter what.” Jhett said they knew if they made four good jackpot runs and were straight up, they would place pretty good. And that is just what they did. Jase and Jhett roped 3 steers consistently and were the high call team. “When the second high call team went out, it took off all the pressure,” they both agreed.  This young team made a text book run and were 8.3 in the short – 30.55 on 4 head and won the roping. “It was pretty cool,” Jhett said. They each won $58,500 along with champion saddles.
“I couldn’t be more blessed,” Jhett stated. “I got to win the #10 shootout with my best friend and partner ever since we were little. I’m just so thankful to have the Lord in my life who allowed me to do good and I’m thankful for everything my mom and dad and the rest of my family have done for me.  I couldn’t be happier.  The bonus is the amount of money we won which I hope to use toward my college education.”
Both agree being members of the CJRA has helped make them the caliber of rodeo contestants they are. “My Dad ropes and my Mom used to rodeo and they wanted to do something as a family. The CJRA is a lot of fun and we can do it as a family,” said Jase who has a younger brother Klayt who also competes at the CJRA. Jhett also has a similar story. “We joined the CJRA for the same reason. My dad ropes and I have an older sister, Mercedes, who also competes at rodeo events at the college level. We enjoy being together and the lifestyle that rodeo commands. The CJRA has allowed us to do what we love,” said Jhett. “And we have made great friends that we look forward to seeing every year.”
When not on the rodeo trail, both Jhett and Jase enjoy riding and training their horses and working on their techniques.  Jase also likes to hunt and helps out a lot on the family ranch. Jhett enjoys roping with his dad and likes to ride young horses and when he’s not doing that, you can find him on the golf course.
We congratulate Jhett and Jase for their accomplishments in the world of team roping and wish them the best of luck.  Both these young men have a great future ahead of them and we look forward to watching them as they continue on their road to rodeo success!
