“A Wyoming Girl”

Charlotte Pulsher Laycock was always a Wyoming girl! Charlotte grew up on the family ranch on South Lodge Pole Creek south of Laramie and died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at the hospital in Laramie. She graduated from high school in Fort Collins, Colorado but returned to Laramie to attend the University of Wyoming. She met Bill Laycock while in college and they were married in June of 1955 after he completed Army service in Korea. She and Bill had two children and his career in forestry and range management took them to Rutgers University in New Jersey, to Idaho, Utah, Colorado and a year in New Zealand and finally back to Laramie where Bill was on the University of Wyoming faculty.
Rodeo, at every level–Little Britches, High School, College, Professional—was always a part of Charlotte and Bill’s life. Bill was a rodeo advisor at the colleges where he worked and as their children grew, he would often announce at youth rodeos. And Charlotte was always there and never lost her love of the sport. For over thirty years Charlotte and Bill attended the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Charlotte had a place in her heart for many of the members of the rodeo program at the University of Wyoming, making them welcome in her home and keeping in touch after they left college.
The Laycocks are life members of the NIRA Alumni and while Bill served on the Board of Directors as Secretary/Treasurer, Charlotte hosted the meetings, registering guests and greeting everyone with a big smile. She loved to tell stories and hear the stories of others. Charlotte never met a stranger, she was funny and forthright and although she traveled widely, even making it to Antarctica, and loved new experiences and meeting people, she was a Wyoming girl, happiest when she was back in her home state.”I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!”
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill Laycock, a daughter Donice and her husband Tim, son Cody and grandsons Bill and Shane. She also leaves two sisters, Luetta VerStraten and Sandra Lund.
Services were held January 4th in Laramie.
